Russian oligarch and ex-KGB officer Alexander Lebedev agreed to buy a majority stake in London's Evening Standard newspaper from Daily Mail and General Trust Plc for a nominal sum, 21 January The newspaper was sold to Alexander Lebedev and his son Evgeny Lebedev, Daily Mail said in an e-mailed statement. Lebedev, who made his fortune in banking, is the founder of Moscow news magazine Korrespondent and owns a stake in the Novaya Gazeta newspaper.
